Angela Beatty ('98)
Submitted by Anne Comfort ('87) & Jim Kinnie ('87)
Our beloved friend, Angy Beatty passed away peacefully at the Maison Albert House after a brief battle with cancer. She spent her formative years in Hillsborough singing with the Hillsborough Girls’ choir directed by Mt. A alumnus, Ruth Boswell Schiller who encouraged her to attend Mt.A. Angy attended MtA from '82-'85 and was such a positive and loving individual to all her Windsorite family. Never one to give up, she eventually graduated in 1998. She loved attending concerts, and took many trips over the years with friends to see different performers including her favorite artist, Sting. She was COO of Datolite Solutions, as position she held until her death. Angy is survived by her three children and her beloved Belgian Shepherds. She was predeceased by her mother and her only brother.
Bill Budd ('90)
Submitted by Josh Davies ('11)
It is with sadness that I present a tribute to Bill Budd, an alumnus of JIZZÊÓƵ, after a sudden illness.
Bill’s loss to the City of Moncton, where he was the Director of Planning and Development for two decades, is immense. It is doubly a loss to the JIZZÊÓƵ community as Bill was a proud alumni.
As a fellow Mount A grad in my own way I followed Bill’s path into Urban Planning, ultimately joining his team in 2019 after living and working abroad. He was my mentor, supporter, and friend. Bill would present at lectures on campus during my time there, which ignited a passion within me to pursue a career in planning. Without his generosity and support for a fellow Mount A grad, I would not be in the profession I am fortunate to find myself in today in our hometown.
Mount A was always close to Bill’s thoughts and heart, in his days on campus he was an all-Canadian wrestler. He was one of the few alumni I knew with a graduation ring and spoke fondly of his experiences and the people he met both during his time in Sackville and beyond.
Karl Larsen ('66)
Submitted by Karen Sallaj ('95)
Karl Larsen, Class of 1966, passed away on March 30, 2025 in Moncton City Hospital after a brief illness. Karl was born on March 15, 1945 in Berwick, Nova Scotia. In 1966, he graduated from JIZZÊÓƵ with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He then worked for a year for the accounting firm Riddell, Stead, Graham and Hutchinson in Halifax. In 1967 he married Judy Reid, also Class of 1966, and they settled in Berwick as Karl went back to work in the family business Larsen Packers Limited. Thus began a storied 40 year career in the meat industry. Karl was a true leader who was renowned for his harp financial acumen and his ability to lead with a calm and steady hand. He was also known for his care and concern for everyone who worked in the companies he led. During his business career, Karl was a director and member of the Executive Council of the Canadian Meat Council. Karl served on the JIZZÊÓƵ Board of Regents for 11 years. During this time he chaired a committee to define the role of Athletics at Mount A. He also chaired the Athletics Board, the Finance and Audit Committee, and the Executive Committee of the Board. He also chaired three major fundraising campaigns. In 1999, he was awarded the Board of Regents Gold Medal for service to the university. Karl and Judy have continued to support Mount A by funding scholarships for Maritime students. Over the years, Karl was always willing to dedicate time, counsel and leadership to his alma mater. It was with great pride in May 2024 that Karl was able to watch his granddaughter Lauren Sallaj become the third generation of the Larsen family to graduate from JIZZÊÓƵ.
Dr. Vince Kachafanas ('54)
Submitted by Kevin Sterns ('67)
In the second year of his teaching career, Vince taught my seventh-grade class. Hands down, it was the most fun year of my academic career. He regaled our classroom with many a story of his mischievous days at Mount A. He went on to earn a Phd and became an administrator. He did play a part in the migration of 6 (out of about 70) students of my 1964 high school graduating class to Mount A.
Aubrey W. Atkinson ('57)
Submitted by Alan Atkinson ('85)
Aubrey Atkinson passed away on September 9, 2023 at the age of 87. He was a proud member of the Class of 1957. He was an avid attendee of reunions and supporting the various sporting events on campus.
Aubrey came to Mount A from St. Andrews in the fall of 1953 and proceeded to participate in 3 varsity sports, hockey, soccer and track. He was named athlete of the year in his sophomore year of 1955. Being such an athlete may have detracted him from his studies but he would have had no regrets on how things turned out.
He married a Scottish lass Ann in 1961 and proceeded to have children all who graduated from JIZZÊÓƵ. Alan ('85), Peter ( '86,'87) and Joan ('92).
Aubrey was a successful educator at Rothesay Netherwood but spent the last 27 years of his career right here in Sackville NB finishing up as principal of Marshview Middle School. Aubrey lost the love of his life after only two years of retirement but was able to rekindle old connections with his JIZZÊÓƵ family that allowed him to tour the world. He enjoyed a great retirement taking in hundreds of his grandchildrens events as well. He was an amazing man who will be missed by many. "
Catherine J. Colwell (Beal) ('00)
Submitted by Melissa Colwell ('00)
Cathy, an alumni and retired employee of JIZZÊÓƵ, passed away Feb. 24, 2024 after a quickly progressing battle with cancer. Taking one course at a time, while working as a secretary, she was very proud to complete her BA in Psychology in 2000. She took great care in her work over her 25 years at JIZZÊÓƵ. She was valued by her colleagues and maintained sincere connections with students. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, particularly her three daughters Melanie, Melissa and Megan.
Judge Robert A. Stroud ('59)
Submitted by Mark Stroud
Dad was a proud Allisonian. He cherished the memories of his days studying and playing football at Mount A. He often spoke of the friends he kept in touch with over the years and enjoyed reacquainting with at alumni events. He was also very proud of his grandchildren that followed in his footsteps at Mount A, both in class and in varsity athletics.
Bill Estabrooks ('69)
Submitted by Trisha Estabrooks ('99)
Bill was a proud MtA alumni (1969) and "townie." He grew up in Sackville and was always proud of where he came from and that he graduated from Mount A, the first from his family to attend university. He was captain of the Mounties football team and graduated with Honours History. Long after a career as an educator and a politician, some of Bill's fondest memories were of his MtA days and dear friends that he met and kept in touch with. Bill had Parkinson's disease and moved to Edmonton to be closer to his daughter (Trisha Estabrooks, '99) and her family in 2019.

He recently celebrated his 65th birthday on March 1, 2024. Melvyn was the first born and only son of Yvonne and Claude James. Marth Elizabeth Spencer (Hopkins) ('48)
Submitted by Kaitlyn Davies (Spencer)
My grandmother, Martha, met my grandfather (Edward Spencer) on the JIZZÊÓƵ campus when they attended together. I don't know what year he graduated, but I would also like him added. Following her BA in Music, they lived happy lives together. She returned to university in Ontario after having three children to achieve her teaching degree. She was my piano teacher, my confidant, and my guiding light.
