This form is for those interested in working as TAs for Computer Science courses during the Fall 2025 term.
Those wishing to apply to be tutors in the Math and Computer Science Help Centres should use the Mathematics TA, marker, and Math/Comp help center application form.
While we may have your interest noted from previous applications, please complete the current form so that we know which course sections suit your schedule.
Applications should be submitted by Monday, Aug. 11th
However, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early as the interview and hiring process will begin soon and proceed throughout the summer.
If you are uncertain of your timetable or availability for the semester, or if you are only interested in grading duties, please select Other in the form below and specify any details in the provided field.
We encourage applications from members of racialized communities, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, and persons of all sexual and gender identities. We seek candidates with qualifications and knowledge that contribute specifically to the further diversification of our campus community.
We have a conflict-of-interest policy that applies to relationships between Teaching Assistants and students. If you: 1) are a paid tutor for any student in your course or lab section; or 2) have a personal or social relationship with any student in your lab section, you may be in conflict of interest. As a TA, you will be asked to disclose such conflicts.
By submitting this form, you grant the Math and Computer Science Dept. access to view and download your Mt.A transcript and student schedule for the purposes of evaluating your application.
For further details, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact comp-ta@mta.ca
Specific considerations
Applicants should have taken (or received credit for) the relevant course(s).
For COMP 1631 applicants:
A TA holding this position will help guide students during integrated in-class activities, labs, and discussions. There will be two 2-hour in-person classes per week. TAs are also expected to review class material (as provided) in preparation for each class.
They may also be called on to assist with various help sessions, tutorials, assignment grading, and other tasks throughout the term.
Preference will be given to applicants available for both classes of the same section, (Tue/Thu or Wed/Fri), but this is not strictly required to apply.
Classes requiring TA support begin in the first week of classes, Sept. 2nd–5th. Hiring is expected to be complete by August 22nd as some training may be held during the week preceding classes, (Aug. 25th–Sept. 29st). Applicants should expect to be available during this period.
For COMP 2611 applicants:
A TA holding this position will assist with the weekly 3-hour lab, (including review and preparation time). They may also be asked to assist with lab and assignment grading.
The course will be taught using Java, but in a VS Code environment rather than the BlueJ environment familiar to COMP 1731 students.
